Anchor of East, Digha Sea Resort



Within the ambiance of West Bengal an essence of Digha which is often termed as Brighton of the East can be considered as one of the most spectacular site within the whole of West Bengal.


As the beautiful sea sites that runs across the route creating the wonders of beach holiday is located within the site of South West Calcutta. Ascent shallow sand beach with vibes of engulfing waves that stretches up to 7 km in length speaks the volume of this sea resort.

Brighton of the east had its origin when Warren hasting discovered the site of the beach during 18th century but before the venture of British the site was renowned as Beerkul. 

Another tale which is associated in evolving the charm of the beach is linked with the English tourist John Frank Smith who came here in 1923 and was bemused to see the perennial beauty of the Digha and from there onwards people came to know regarding its brilliance.

It was John Frank Smith who after seeing the quietude of the beach urged West Bengal's chief minister Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy to develop the site of Digha as sea side resort.

Places of Interest
Shankarpur beach: adjacent to the site of Digha Shankarpur is a newly discovered beach which can be reached by Bus from Digha and from Digha you will end up at Choddomile and once you reach here take a ride of car and after 15 minutes of ride you will see the vast stretches of sea and here you will witness the guiding light of Shankarpur beach.

Junput:  another celebrated beach within the periphery of Digha. Beside that here you will witness the fish cultivation and research which is done by the State Government Fisheries Department. For silent walk and picnic plans this beach is very ideal.

Shiva temple, situated just a few kilometre away from New Digha this temple is surely the most prolific and religious temple within the site.

Food
Being at a sea side here one can expect to enjoy the sea food which is complimented by Boiled eggs and fried Soft Shell Crabs or Salt Water shrimps.  Beside that her you can also check in at seafood banquets, authentic bengali cuisine, Chinese and Continental.

Shopping
Native handicrafts merchandise like Crunch shell, pearls, sea stone all are to be found here at the local markets.

Climate
Beside rainy season when the shores of the beach gets little rough is only the time when you should not a pay a visit here otherwise this place witnesses and enjoys mild and moderate weather.

How to Get There
By rail, train services are available from Howrah Railway Station which is 4 hour away from the site beside that one can also make a note of Kharagpur railway junction which is one of the most important terminus of railway.

By Road
Howrah bus terminus can serve the purpose of such traveller who wishes to adjourn this place via road. Beside that Kolkata has strong transport network with other cities like Asansol, Durgapur, Bankura and Jamshedpur. So travelling here won’t be a problem.
