Splendid Hinterlands of North Sikkim

Whenever the Himalayan beauty of Sikkim is asked to be sustained then the Northern glory of the state arises in to show the might of the slopes and ravines through which the traveller descends to witness the solemn brilliance of Mother Nature.

North Sikkim of the Indian state of Sikkim comprises of the fascinating regions like Lachen, Lachung, Katao, Yumthang, Durudongmar Lake and Chopta valley that commands the elevation and brings the best out of Himalayan state.
Tour of North Sikkim
While coming to the Northern halves of Sikkim the first thing that travellers look to witness is the astounding splendour of Yumthang which is located at a distance of around 142 km away from the capital Sikkim, Gangtok.
Nestled at an elevation of 1200 ft the entire valley of the region is covered with the affluence of Rhododendrons and Orchid.  It hot spring which is famous for its healing power sets itself at the corner of Lachung Cha.
While coming here make sure to walk through the dale of Yumesamdong another mesmerising valley located within the fold of Yumthang and beside that how about walking through the core of Donkiyala pass that act as a confluence of Lachung and Lachen.
Walk here during the time of summer especially during the months of April to June to witness the enchanting vibes of Yumthang.
Katao Valley
Commanding an altitude of 1500 ft Katao of Northern Sikkim is located at a distance of around 24 km and while coming to experience the weather of Northern Sikkim the visit to Katao becomes inevitable.
The pristine valley which is covered with snow is so much dominated by the height of Rhododendron and Orchid that the valley is often reminds us of Switzerland. From Katao one can view the tremendous stands of mountain and its enduring slopes.
What best you can look to do is look to execute your excursion plan or go for a short trekking to see the valley that surrounds and binds the wonders of Katao.
Although winter is the time to see the call of live snowflakes but because of its natural boundaries the entire northern part remains closed so expect to come here during the time of summer.
Lachung and Lachen
Renowned as sleepy towns of northern Sikkim both the valley commands a striving elevation to give its traveller an exclusive experience. While Lachung is famous for its excursion to Yumthang valley the Lachen at the other hand is very much renowned for its apple plantation and sceptical valley.
Expect trekking to be the sole adventure perks of the valley and while exploring the heights make sure to walk into the Lachen Monastery which would be a spring of surprise for the traveller.
Gurudongmar Lake
 Located at a distance of around 50 km from the pristine valley of Lachen the lake of Gurudongmar is a cherry on top because an elevation it commands measures the height of 18000 ft making it one of the splendid arenas of Himalaya.
The devotees would have their share because the site is considered to be divine from the view of Buddhism and Hinduism. As per believe of local people the site is emulsify by the blessings of Gurudongmar Padmasamvava.
An amazing fact about the lake is that it never freezes down and the valley remains milky throughout the year making it one of the splendour of the northern Sikkim. While coming here what best you can look to do is view the mesmerising beauty of Mt. Siniolchu and traveller must understand that the lake is the source of River Tista.
Chopta Valley
The valley and its serenity are renowned as offbeat destination. Nurtured within an elevation of 13300 ft, make sure to come here during the time of spring to witness the blossoms of Rhododendrons and wide varieties of Orchid.
Things to Note
Traveller must remember to obtain a permit before arriving to the northern helms of Sikkim and to get the same they would require talking with the authority who in turn would validate your documents and would assign you a permit.
How to Reach
By air- the nearest airport is Bagdogra which is located at a distance of around 200 km from Sikkim.
By train- the nearest airport to Sikkim is New Jalpaiguri and it is located at a distance of around 150 km and it will take around 3 and half hour to reach.
By road-Siliguri is the nearest nodal point and from here you will get ample of local cabs and spacious sumo to reach Gangtok.
