Durg, an Important Pilgrimage Center of Chhattisgarh

Durg is a city of Durg district, which is located in the south-western part of Chhattisgarh. It is a chief pilgrimage destination of the state, which is located at a distance of about 11 km from Bhilai and about 40 km from Raipur. 


The city is headquarters of the Drug district, which is the second largest district in the state. Durg is dotted with various ancient temples and scenic tourist places, which makes it a popular tourist destination of Chhattisgarh. Apart from the temples and the tourist places, the city is also famous for its cultural heritage and traditional dance forms like, Raut Nacha and Pandwani.

Attractions
Deorbijia Temple- It is one of the most revered temples in Durg district, located in the Deorbijia town of the region. Deorbijia temple is an ancient temple, which is famous for its striking sculptures and skillful architecture, which reveals the rich history of the region. It is believed that when you wish for something at this temple and if it comes true, you got to again the temple to thank the God. Many devotees form different parts of the state and the neighboring states frequently visit this temple.

Maitri Bagh- It is a beautifully designed garden which was established with the combined initiative of the Indian and Russian governments. This fascinating garden of Durg comprises of a zoo, which has a toy train, artificial lake and an island, which includes a musical fountain. Maitri Bagh is among the popular tourist attractions of the region.

Devbaloda- The place is located at a close distance from Durg and is a popular destination for tourists and pilgrims, as it holds an ancient temple of Lord Shiva.

Bhilai Steel Plant- This renowned Iron and Steel Plant of Durg is the only Steel Plant in the state of Chhattisgarh. The site is popular among the tourists who seek technical knowledge. Some of the chief places in the Steel Pant are Wire Rod Mill, oven battery, Blast furnace, Rail and Structure Mill etc.

Best Time to Visit
The best time to visit the place is during the winter months, i.e. from October to February, as it experiences a pleasant climate during this time of the year, which is ideal for outdoor activities.

As it is one of the prime tourist destinations of the state, the place is dotted with various hotels and resorts that range from budget to luxury class. Many of these hotels and resorts offer lucrative packages making your stay into an enjoyable as well as a memorable one.

How to Reach
By Air: The nearest airport to this place is in Raipur, located at a distance of about 52 km. The airport is well linked with places like Ahmadabad, Delhi, Kolkata, Nagpur, Mumbai, Chennai, Vishakhapatnam and many others. You will get regular bus and taxi services from the airport to get to the city.

By Train: The city has its own railway station that is connected with various major parts in India like Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Nagpur etc.


By Road: The place is easily accessible by road from places like Raipur (40 km) and Nagpur (241 km). Durg receives regular bus and taxi services from both the places.
