Diversified Culture of Lataguri, Jalpaiguri

Located at the outer edge of Gorumara National Park, Lataguri is small hamlet that surrounds the quarters of Jalpaguri district in the Indian state of West Bengal. For nature lovers Lataguri is just a perfect place to spend their vacation because its dense beauty which is covered by forests and riverine grassland speaks the volume of natural essence.


Within the thick vegetation of Lataguri traveler would have an opportunity to understand the vistas of flora and fauna which in turn would make your journey appealing and natural.

History
According to historical facts during a visit of Hiuen Tsang to Assam most of its parts were working under the administrative lines of Kampura kingdom. Later kingdom started enhancing its border towards River Karatoya and to duars which according to historians were a land of royals of Bhutan and Cooch Behar.

It was in 1864 when Hedayet Ali, rebel the site under the call of British and conquered the region and successfully divided Bhutanese kingdom into two parts and after the call of 1869 it was fused with Jalpaiguri District.

Diversity of the Region
Since its inception it has been residential marks of Raj Bangshis who are considered to be chief residents of this area but with an evolution many other tribes like Mech, the Ravas and the Totos made their appearance and are living together.

Beside these local tribes, you have bonds of Limbus, Bengalis and Lepchas who have come from different sect of culture and are sharing the link of diversity under the single roof. Apart from that you have presence of the Uraons, the Nageshias and the Mundas who according to history was brought from Chotanagpur Plateau by the British.
They say these people were brought by British to serve their labor purpose as they were cheap and accessible.  
Culture and Festival
When it comes to their culture than all the above mentioned sects covers the different background of Tribal community and their culture are numerous. The people here jointly celebrate Durga Puja, Kali Puja, Teesta Burir Puja, Manosha Puja and on top of that they call for fairs where popular folk art of the region are put into display.

Attraction
When it comes to its major attraction than do remember to walk through the Gorumara National Park, where you will have an opportunity to witness preservation of local flora and fauna beside that Rovers Point and Rupam Valley are some of the local attractions of the site.

Best Time to Visit
Soothing climatic condition and low humidity has been a main factor for tourist to arrive here and when it comes to an ideal time make sure to walk here during the call of winter season to experience the beauty of weather.

How to Reach
By air- the nearest airport is Bagdogra and it is located at a distance of around 77km from there.

By train- the nearest railway station is New Jalpaiguri and it is located at a distance of around 23 km from Lataguri.
