Perched
perfectly at an elevation of around 100 m above from the sea level the

Etymology
According
to historians the name Golaghat is derived from the two words Gola which means
market and Ghat meaning the port of Transport. The point of origination dates
back its history to 19th century when Marwari people walked here and
established the market near the estuary of Dhansiri River.

understand the history of this place one would require travelling to a period
of Colonial era when British took over Assam. It was in 1846 during British
administration the valley of Doyang-Dhansiri was merged with Golaghat
subdivision of Sibsagar District.

city came as a nemesis during the freedom struggle of nation and during that
phase it played a crucial role to drive home the foreign air. Some of the
prominent freedom fighters like Kushal Konwar, Kamala Miri, Dwariki Das,
Gaurilal Jain, Ganga Ram Bormedhi, Shri Tara Prasad Barooah and Rajendra Nath
Barua were the major contributors of freedom movement of India.
Apart
from its historic role in freedom movement the city has earned its name for
preserving its endemic art and culture and in this context their literary
contribution marks a significant call.

can look to hire local cab and bus services from here to reach the site.
